Grew up at Waimauku New Zealand during World War ll and favourite reading in those days was the Auckland Weekly News and often there would be reports from the Coast Watch stations of the Sub-Antarctic Islands such as Campbell and Auckland . These Coast Guard Stations were often manned with personnel who had an interest in the Natural History of the area, men such as Graham Turbott Later to be curator of the Auckland Museum, and Robert Falla ( later Sir Robert director of Canterbury Museum )
Their reports conjured a fascination in these islands south of New Zealand and gave me a desire, if I ever had the chance I would like to visit them.
This journey, illustrated in this book, is therefore a fulfillment of a boyhood desire.
During the 1970's I had the privilege of sitting on a Natural History Photography selection panel with Graham Turbott, and the late Geoff Moon
