About the Book
"Strange Bedfellows, and other critters," by Campbell Hutchinson, ©2009, a children’s book of 17 paintings and limericks. “There is in nature a symbiotic relationship among different species. They work together and each one benefits from the other. That is why you see zebras or impalas hanging around giraffes out in the African savanna. The giraffe can see in the distance and will warn the smaller animals of approaching danger.
A former lawyer now pursuing a career in fine art, I am an expressionist painter trying to capture the spirit of my subject, be it man, animal or place. In 2008 I wrote, illustrated and published my first book, “wild things,” consisting of my animal paintings and limericks I wrote about each painting. My five succeeding books were in the same vein, featuring my animals and limericks. My recent (2014) book, "This is Our Land," is markedly different in that the emphasis is on the land and wilderness, and all my paintings included in the book are landscapes. Accompanying each painting is a quote from a noted writer, poet, naturalist or environmentalist about the value of our wilderness and its preservation for generations to come. Edward Abbey wrote “Wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit.” That is the message of “This Land is Our Land.”
