"Strange Bedfellows, and other critters," by Campbell Hutchinson, ©2009, a children’s book of 17 paintings and limericks. “There is in nature a symbiotic relationship among different species. They work together and each one benefits from the other. That is why you see zebras or impalas hanging around giraffes out in the African savanna. The giraffe can see in the distance and will warn the smaller animals of approaching danger.

Lawyer turned artist, I am a figurative painter of man and animal. In 2008 I wrote, illustrated and published my first book, “wild things,” a book of some of my animal paintings and limericks I wrote about each painting. The book was primarily intended for my grandchildren, but it gained some popularity locally primarily among art patrons. I subsequently published “Strange Bedfellows, and other critters” in 2009 and “Great Woolly Beasts” in 2010, using the same format.

Although some of my limericks and paintings are intended to be witty, I intend the books to be educational tools about animals, their traits, their environments, and their similarities to man, and in some instances their virtues that are superior to man's.

These books were written for my grandchildren and for kids of all ages who are bored with the customary children's book and want something with a little humor and spice. Hopefully, parents will enjoy the humor as they read to their kids.
