A collage (From the French: coller, to glue) is a work of art, primarily in the visual arts, made from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new whole. Use of this technique made its dramatic appearance among oil paintings in the early 20th century as an art form of groundbreaking novelty.
An artistic collage work may include newspaper clippings, ribbons, bits of colored or hand-made papers, portions of other artwork, photographs, and such, glued to a piece of paper or canvas.
The term collage derives from the French "coller" meaning "glue".[2] This term was coined by both Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso in the beginning of the 20th century when collage became a distinctive part of modern art
This book is the product of a joint effort by brothers Vasily Kafanov and Alexei Bayer. They are half-brothers, sharing the same father , even though their last names are different. (It's a long story, why.) From their father they inherited no money, property or brains--not even his great athletic figure--only his short arms. He was a boxer, but his arms were literally too short to box with God. But the brothers compensated for this sad lack of legacy by using their hands to great advantage.
Vasily is an artist and is responsible for the collages in this book, as well as for the overall design and conception Alexei is a writer and has written some texts and picked up others on the Internet.

Vasily Kafanov
fishtower New York, NY, US

Vasily Kafanov is known for his playful and mysterious paintings that feature his trademark "Fishtower" – an architectural anomaly that combines reality with fantasy. The Fishtower is often seen floating lazily over groups of brightly - outfitted harlequins who dance, fiddle and play amid his dreamlike landscapes. A prolific artist, Vasily often relies on folkloric imagery mixed with beautiful and enigmatic symbolism to bring his vision to life on canvas. Born in Moscow, Russia in 1952, Vasily left that country and settled in New York City in 1990, where he now lives with his family. In 2000, Vasily teamed with the Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan to work on the band's album, Machina/The Machines of God. He produced 20 paintings for the lyrics booklets for the album and designed set for the group's global tour. His work has been exhibited by various galleries and museums in Chicago, San Francisco, Hong Kong, Moscow, Paris and Amsterdam
