In 2009, we had the honor of doing two photography workshops, with over twenty photographers, at the Northern State Mental Hospital in Sedro Woolley, WA. The buildings are 100 years old and some of them are no longer in use. They were abandoned over 30 years ago. The workshop started off as class in 'The Absence of Light', how the absence of light (black) can enhance your photography. The photographers though were so affected by the history and the aura of the location, that we had held another workshop there, only this time we were allowed inside.
This book was created as a result of the amazing images captured by the photographers and portrays the emotions they felt.
We hope you enjoy it.
All proceeds will be used to benefit Northern State Hospital preservation.

I have seen the photos going into the book and talked with the folks that published their pictures. I can say this was a truly wonderful set of people and the pictures are stunning! Thank you for everything you are doing to help preserve our campus and all the emotions and skill that went into this book. I loved having you here and look forward to the publishing of the book.
