Summer Activities for Kids: Make a Magazine

It’s been a while since I’ve had summer vacation—a long while, really—but I still remember those endless days flowing off into oblivion when I was kid. Too hot to go outside, my sister and I whiled away our time watching cable television, which was the big new thing in the ’80s. Now kids can waste their time on screens big and small, outside or in.

Still, the summers I remember are ones where I made stuff: Like the time I invented my own NASA-like space agency and created a stapled-together astronaut manual full of drawings of spaceships and space suits. Today, I’d be able to forego the staples and just make a nice-looking magazine with Blurb. I could make copies for friends and family. Maybe an extra copy for the US government too.

The Today Show did a nice little segment on ways to keep keeps busy during the summer and was kind enough to include Blurb and BookWright in the round-up. Check it out below—we’re just after the 3-minute mark.

If you’ve made magazines or books with your kids, let us know about it. We’d love to see more examples.
