About Book
EWS often supply Class 60's for weekend engineering work. On the 19th April 2005, 60068 'Charles Darwin' is captured rounding the curve at Creech St Michael hauling a load of fresh mendip ballast. The 6W08 from Westbury was diagrammed to enter the engineering blockade at Taunton; here the train would continue at slow speed to the worksite, it would then wait to be unloaded.

On the 26th March 2005, 60010 passes Victory Crossing on the outskirts of Taunton heading for Exeter with a mixed take of wagons on tow working the 6W86 from Westbury
60010 still carries the first generation EW&S livery. Use of heavy Type 5 traction for weekend engineering has been a common sight for many years.

General Motors Class 59's are regular performers on weekend engineering trains. On the 27th December 2005, 59205 is seen at Charlton leaving an engineering blockade at Creech St Michael with a train of loaded spoil.
The 6W52 returned to Westbury where the train of Network Rail JNA wagons were unloaded.
It's likely the Class 59 would have returned to Merehead or Whatley Quarry.

On the 13th April 2008 59104 (In Hanson Colours) and 59004 (In Yeoman livery) made an unexpected appearance at Taunton. The top and tailed working from Fairwood Jn to Westbury ventured to Fairwater Yard, Taunton to change direction and access Westbury via Bristol. A round trip of nearly 100 miles extra. 59104 is seen exiting Fairwater Yard heading North at 40 Steps.
