This book documents an exploration of the western landscape. The source of inspiration dictates the media used as well as the degree of realism or abstraction. These are all small works on paper containing experimental use of watermedia (watercolor, gouache, inks, acrylics and water-based pigments in crayon and stick forms. Several of these pieces begin with a textural ground in acrylic gel medium or sculptured acrylic pastes.
Each media portrays a unique personality. Bold opaque gouache contrasts with the subtle transparency of watercolor. Inks flow across the paper only to crash into waxy crayons. The delicate pencil lines dance with flashy copper metallic strokes. The work combines an expressive impressionist painting style with glazing and various resist techniques defining space with layers of textures and calligraphic brush strokes.
All of this work is available for sale. In some cases, limited edition giclee reproductions are also available. The Moon Series is available in a signed and numbered edition of fifty. Each moon is printed on canvas and gallery-wrapped on 12” by 12” wooden stretchers. Many of the mesas and mountains are available on canvas or on watercolor paper. Not every piece can be reproduced. However all of the images selected for limited edition retain the color and intensity of the original. Check out:
