Photographic projects are at the center of Utata. We run a series of ongoing challenges for our nearly 18,000 members, encouraging them to stretch their skills and imaginations. Each year we also initiate one large overarching project. In 2007, we chose a project that would demonstrate the depth and breadth of the talent of our members. We selected half a dozen broad categories of work and watched with delight and amazement as the photographs were submitted. Since the project was about our membership, we decided to call the project 'The Utatan'. This book is the Editor's choice of submissions to that project.

It's a fantastic body of work, and the book, from concept to layout to finished product, is quite special. I'm so proud to be a part of the book. And proud to be a Utatan, of course.
