Artist Statement
My work continues to explore my childhood connection with nature, but lately I find myself speaking to the grown up I have become. Each painting is a leisurely walk through memories and dreams of place. Not one particular place, but place as it exists for all us. Secret places we went to as kids. Quiet places we go to now as adults. Places that bring us peace. Places that fuel our need for the mysterious. Maybe even places that scare us a little.
The scenes I depict do not exist in the physical world. They are inventions based upon a collection of the places I have been, and those that have touched me. Time and season become indefinite and fluid as the images coalesce upon the canvas.
The visual experience is evocative rather than informative. Just as nature is constantly changing, so to do the paintings evolve as they are viewed. Paint is layered and glazed to produce a shimmering transparent luminescence that resonates with memory and dream. Layers have been rubbed away as the painting grows, leaving the barest trace of color to remind us of the place it was before. Colors are highly saturated and intense, giving the scenes a deep, lush and visceral feel.

Ultimately, these paintings are a love letter written to myself. A letter I found so beautiful and touching, it had to be shared. As you wander through my work, I hope you take some time to reflect and relax. Remember your places. Places that make you happy and most importantly remind you of the joy of being alive.
