About the Book
In December of 2008, I spent 4 days in the Chilean city of Valparaíso (a World Heritage Site). While visiting I felt an immediate connection, due to the similarities to my home of San Francisco. Both are port cities and cultural centers. Both are made up of many hills, and both are full of colorful buildings and beautiful views.
As I traveled the many hills and backstreets I came across wonderful street art, friendly locals and hidden treasures around every corner. But it was the buildings themselves that struck me. I became drawn to the colorful doors of the homes and businesses that dotted the twisting streets. Whether the houses were for the rich or not, they all had character and energy.
This book is my attempt to try to capture some of that energy.
