Some of these pictures were taken in June and the rest in July of 2005. It so happened that the town was celebrating 60 years since WWII at the time. Some key points of interest were the Tikhvin Cemetery where various famous Russians have been buried, the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, Saint Isaac's Cathedral, and the Winter Palace which holds the Hermitage Museum.
The Red Square pictures were taken in July of 2005. These happened to be taken days before the performance of "Live 8" (which accounted for the blue stage setup next to St. Basil's Cathedral). Some of the sights here include: Saint Basil's Cathedral, the State Historical Museum, Lenin's Tomb, and Spasskaya Tower.
