Through the Branches is a celebration of our connection to all living things in the woods and waters of Michigan. The pictures in this volume were taken spring, summer and autumn at Chippewa Nature Center, the Rifle River State Recreation Area and on a small island in the majestic Au Sable River.

While each flying, walking and growing thing has their own special story to share, I've taken the liberty of adding some thoughts of my own.

My parents first took me camping in a borrowed tent when I was five. From then on, I grew up exploring the woods and fell in love with it. Since 1995, I've worked at Chippewa Nature Center in Midland, Michigan. Our vision is to inspire people to protect the natural world. Whether I'm leading a group backpacking, kayaking, snowshoeing or birding or simply headed off alone in my a solo canoe, I try to be an acute observer of the interconnected web of life, of which we are all a part.
