About the Book
For a while now, I have been compelled by the forms and textures of roses. Though visually stunning, their distinct forms and sinuous movement engage me far beyond their shape, color shade and perfume. When working in the past, I was reminded of special moments and people that have guided me. I saw their contributions in my life, metaphorically, within the roses I photographed. Lately I have separated from memory and have been viewing roses individually, appreciating the uniqueness that makes each one special. Besides being unique, roses carry their own identity, delicate and personal.
As someone who has struggled with not knowing the truth in her identity, these roses challenge me to look through the knowledge of coherence I am missing. For this project I focused on my identity using the rose as my symbol. Identity is a very difficult and personal subject for me to photograph and as I express the drawback with identity by mirroring the roses, I force them to look through their own reflection.
