About the Book
The Galápagos Archipelago straddles the equator approximately 600 miles off the cost of Ecuador in the Pacific Ocean.
This journey visits the islands of North Seymour, San Cristóbal, Española, Floreana, Santa Cruz, Bartolomé, Isabela, Fernandina and Santiago.
One encounters nature’s splendour through the varied wildlife which accepts our presence as part of their natural environment. The volcanic landscapes, both young and old, can at times be welcoming and hospitable while at other times appear hostile and alien; as if one had landed on Mars.
There are encounters with Darwin’s finches, blue-footed and nazca boobies, frigate birds, mocking birds, doves, albatrosses, flamingos, the Galápagos penguin and many other feathered friends. Experience unique personalities of the marine iguanas as they warm up in the sun, colourful Sally Lightfoot crabs navigating the coastline terrain, come face-to-face with the dragon-like land iguanas protecting their territory and of course meet the famous Galápagos tortoises. The journey continues underwater where the cold, nutrient- rich currents from the Antarctic support an abundance of sea life. Underwater encounters with sea lions, seals, sea turtles, rays and sharks are both mesmerizing and frightening at the same time. One finds the underwater world teeming with life and lit with an incredible array of iridescent colours which delight the visual senses.
Enjoy this journey to the Galápagos. Perhaps you will be inspired to set out on your own adventure. You won’t be disappointed.
