About the Book
Mona Lucero presented her art show and fashion performance, “Black & White Story,” at Hinterland Gallery on Friday, April 30th, 2010.
“Black and White Story” refers to fashion designers’ “story boards,” which are used to conceptualize new ideas for designer‘s collections. In the art portion of the show, story boards were taken one step further with the incorporation of personal writings, drawings, and found objects.
The clothing collection integrated motifs found in the story boards: introspection, love, loss, relationships, and personal evolution. Media included ink on fabric, screen printing, found objects, applique and “Pop Deconstructions,” Mona‘s title for her technique of taking apart t-shirts using screen printed pop imagery such as “Mickey Mouse” and “I Love New York” and collaging them to create a new garment.
