About the Book
The Rhone is an undersea adventure and is visited each year by divers from all over the world. The hurricane of 1867 tore the Rhone apart and laid it out on the seabed in such a way that it can be enjoyed by both snorkelers and scuba divers. The rudder post is about 15 feet underwater and can lead you down to the rudder, propeller and a tunnel that has several species of fish life from the small royal grammas to the larger school master snappers. The propeller shaft takes you deeper and ends at the gear box. There is the south-section with the large water pump and deck beams. North of this section is the mid-section with two sets of deck beams, a large winch, wrenches and machinery. Continue on to the north and there you will find the largest section, the bow. There are deck beams, a cannon, davits, bollards and foremast. Some scuba divers enter the bow and swim through schools of blackbar soldierfish and grunts before exiting through a large opening where the ship broke in two. Depths vary from 30 feet at the propeller to 80 feet at the condenser, which is between the bow and mid-section, and along the keel of the bow. Snorkel or scuba dive either way you are sure to have a great time.

During the 15 years that I lived in the British Virgin Islands I made over 11,000 dives. You might say the Ocean was my life, my passion and my lively-hood. My photography career began in the early 1970s and with hundreds of beautiful reefs and shipwrecks in the B.V.I. I had more subjects to photograph than I had time or film. I use digital cameras now, which has simplified undersea photography. Now I have more time to dream. Luana managed the Aquatic Centres Dive stores and was an excellent underwater model and dive buddy. She was also a wonderful mother to our two children. She was at home on the Rhone and even today the Rhone is her favorite dive site.
