About the Book
Like most countries, Mexico is rich with tradition and religious identity. These photographs were taken between 2009-2010 while I was studying with documentary photographers Mary Ellen Mark and Marcela Taboada. During that time I got to know and enter the world of some of the smaller communities I identified with in Oaxaca. This includes the lives of transvestites, performers, tattoo artists, and the elderly; each expanding upon, in their own way, the divide between individuality and the effervescent religious constructs of Mexican culture and character.
