About the Book
In Cultivating Compassion, I have attempted to address the questions and discomfort surrounding the human desire, if not need, to reach out to friends and family when they are facing any of life’s most difficult challenges.
My several years working as a hospice volunteer, and my twelve years leading classes for people writing their life stories, played a major role in my decision to write a book. Both vividly illustrated the universal need to extend compassion, and how frequently we feel inadequate to do so—a thread that appears to weave through almost every life. —Polly Johnson
