About the Book
Using a modified digital SLR camera to photograph infrared light, I am capturing the way people view themselves. From behind a panel which reflects visible light (and is clear under infrared) I photograph what would appear to be direct eye contact with the lens. What the viewer sees are the expressions these people make when they look into their own eyes.
Additionally, infrared light does not show blemishes or scarring of any sort as well as forcing everyone's skin tone to nearly match, regardless of skin tone under visible light. I chose this portion of the light spectrum to shoot with because I am attempting to capture a Human Condition, regardless of any potential cultural implications.
