Biographical narrative about the authors Great-uncle Perl S. Jones, who purchased a 1917 Buick Roadster in Los Angeles on credit, sold the car in Salt Lake City and decided to keep the money. Perl makes his way back east to Syracuse, but is apprehended and extradited to California. He escapes before the train leaves the Syracuse station. Perl makes his way to Buffalo and Canada but is caught with help from the Buffalo police. Perl's story unfolds through newspaper accounts, prison documents and family photographs and letters.
