About the Book
This is the story of The University of Northern Iowa Varsity Men’s Glee Club in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
From the group’s founding in 1960 until today, the Glee Club not only brings honor and acclaim to it’s namesake university, but it has enriched the lives of the men who call the group their own.
Many of the Glee Club’s alumni have shared their stories in these pages. From the fun of singing in high school gymnasiums to the timeless moments of making music in the world’s largest church, "Brothers Sing On—The First 50 Years" celebrates ‘one of the best choruses on the planet’.
The term ‘glee club’ originated in England in the late 1700’s, when a group of men would gather at a club to sing a short, 3 minute song, called a ‘glee’. The glee club was born and the tradition moved to America in the mid 1800’s, with the first glee club at Harvard University in 1858.
