About the Book
The interest of my paintings is to represent the expression of power that I can gain from the simple beauty of the human body. Every painting has a story to tell and allows viewers to realize and interpret the concerning meanings based on the relationships between each element and character in scene, crossing from a sensual harmony to the most ferocious rivalry. The dramatic intention and the exaggeration of atmospheres are evident in my paintings. I recreate the self-portrait, the mystic Medusa, the bullfighting spectacle and the madness in turbulent compositions that suggest fleeing from reality to an imaginary world. I have as a reference the typical stereotype of the Greek figuration and I look into the Baroque period for the values of the expression through the lights, shades, and color. My work is the reflection of my obsessions of life and death, in an unstable balance that more and more comes near to principles of the beginning and end.
About the Creator
Yunia Lores was born on January 8, 1977 in Guantánamo, Cuba. In 1994 she began her studies at the Professional School of Fine Arts “El Alba” at the city of Holguín. In 1997 she graduated with the Expo-Performance “The mamas Twist” and in the following years she did numerous performances including, “Misses Grapes”, “Hitler in my bathtub” and “Princesses do not exist”. She immigrated to The United States in 2001 where she currently lives and works. The new artwork reflects her astounding abilities with the traditional oil paint media. The figuration tell us about her particular feeling for classical painting style and at the same time it diverts us towards a contemporary vision expressed through the intensity of colors, dark shadows, strange textures and overloaded compositions that characterize her own emotional and psychological state.
