Is it "better to give than to receive," as the saying goes? Many would say yes. However, over the years I have noticed that clients, co-workers, and friends who routinely exercised self-care were able to maintain health and well-being. They also realized that by caring for themselves they were also living spiritually. It is in lieu of this awareness and personal practice that I have written Awaken, a blend of Western spirituality and Taoist inspirations intended for personal reflection and living. I truly believe that the mindful practice of self-care will inevitably lead to personal and spiritual wellness. Also included are four beautiful photos to accompany the four sections of the book.

Within each person
the Spirit resides.
Care of self is love of God.
Time for self is time with God.
Charity, faith, and hope.
The greatest of these is
self-love.
The greatest act of love is
self-care.
What is spiritual practice?
Being good to your body.
Being kind to your thoughts.
Being loving to your feelings.
To better at self-care,
stay mindful.
To stay mindful,
notice your breathing.
To notice your breathing,
take deep breaths.
When one’s thirst is quenched,
the water will flow freely.
When more is given to the self,
more can be done for others.
Does your home
have a relaxing place?
Does your self
have a comfort space?
Hat for the head.
Jacket for the body.
Shoes for the feet.
Comfort for the self.
Body, mind, emotions, spirit.
Such is the self.
Rest, exercise,
whole foods, loving thoughts.
Such are the nourishments.
