The LIVING LEGENDS Awards program is a celebration of three distinguished African Americans during Black History month, February 23, 2008. This program took place at the Emmanuel Brinklow Seventh Day Adventist church in Brinklow MD. The 2008 honorees are: Dr. Emory Tolbert, Simmie Knox, and Dr. Tommie Smith.

This photographic journal has over 200 pictures that captures the celebration of the 2008 honorees.

Dr. Emory Tolbert served as chairman of the Howard University History Department from 1991 to 1998 and from 2002 to 2005. He teaches courses in United States History, African Diaspora History, and Oral History.

Simmie Knox- Painter, Knox received both his bachelors and masters degrees in Fine Art from Temple University. In June 2004, Knox unveiled portraits of Bill and Hillary Clinton at the White House, becoming the first black artist to paint an official presidential portrait.

Dr. Tommie Smith-Sprinter, in the 1968 Olympics at Mexico City he won the gold medal in the 200 m in a world record time of 19·8 s, but caused considerable controversy by giving the Black Power salute while standing on the victor's rostrum. After retirement, he became a coach at Santa Monica College, CA, and then at Oberlin College, OH.
