A collection of photographs from the first trip (March 2003) made exclusively to add pictures to the Travel Places portfolio.
From the cover leaf: "The trip to Florida's east coast in March 2003 was my first attempt to make photographs exclusively for the Travel Places portfolio. I spent 9 days traveling around the Jupiter area, attracted to those exotic and tropical scenes that were so different from the winter weather that I had just left in Saint Louis. I picked Jupiter as it was the spring training home of the Saint Louis Cardinals baseball team. While I did attend a few games, it was the light and life of summer: swimming, surfing, and life in the sun that I photographed the majority of the time. Looking back at these images, I see the beginning of my interest in the people who populate these scenes, which now has become the dominant theme of the current images."
In 2007, the Saint Louis Contemporary Art Museum’s publication Arts Desire, said of Travel Places, “His photographs often reflect the different areas that Younger has traveled to, but they are anything but simple vacation snapshots. The photographs illustrate both his technical skill and his amazing artistic vision.”
From the Texas Tech SRO Gallery: “Dan Younger takes vacation photos and elevates them beyond the level of snapshot in his “Travel Places” collection. To him, there is something in the thrill of travel that necessitates pictures. His vacation pictures with an air of visual mystery create images of interest that are accessible to a wide selection of viewers.”
