More than 40 years ago, I participated in a three-week Outward Bound program on the slopes of Kilimanjaro. I took more than 200 slides, and about 80 of these form the heart of the book.
On the surface, this is a book about the rigorous program at the Outward Bound school and the expeditions we went on, culminating in a climb to the top of Kilimanjaro. Not as obvious, but even more important, were the friendships that formed among young people from the most diverse backgrounds. Some of these have lasted until today.
