About the Book
The title of this book comes from reversing, “Who Are We?”, a popular chanty sung by Swansea football supporters. This book attempts to answer this question; creating a portrait of Swansea City, the second city of Wales.
In recent years Swansea's image has been portrayed less than reputable. Known for its high car crime rate and drug use, the city is suffering from an identity crisis since the departure of its industrial heyday. Swansea has had to establish what it can provide in recent times, whilst being regularly described as “dire” and an “ashtray of a place”.
This book seeks to address years of negative associations and connotations with a documentation that depicts a more positive side to life in Swansea. The book originates from my experience of living in Swansea for the previous five years. I've described Swansea with a considered portrayal, noting the city's historical legacy alongside contemporary achievements and by sharing my personal view of the city and the culture that exists today.
