A small selection of the thousands of images I brought back from a trip to Venice last year. My intent is to capture the flavor of this magical locale, not to document our trip nor provide details on every aspect of life in Venice. Venice is one of those places that must be experienced; I hope I have been able to help you begin to imagine what that experience is like.

On my way into a summer in Honduras in 1962, I bought a Kodak 35mm at the local camera store. A very basic camera, it helped me learn the basics. Six years later I received a Nikkormat SLR for Christmas and really started exploring photography. Extensive B&W darkroom work, experimentation with lighting, dozens of rolls of slide film on every trip. In the late 70's I switched to an Olympus camera, both for the smaller size and in hopes of a more reliable light meter. In the early 1980's I switched again, to a Pentax ME-Super, and I have owned and used a wide variety of Pentax cameras every since, currently using a Pentax K10D.
In my photography, I have a few themes that reoccur regularly. I enjoy candid shots of people, close-ups of birds and flowers, and anything with an interesting texture, such as sunlight on a flowing brook. When traveling, I alternate between the broad shots to capture the essence of the place, and close-ups of details that others might miss. I hope you enjoy!
