Every team begins its season undefeated and every team, save one, ends it on a loss. While success is measured in wins and losses, the real compelling story, the one that captures my imagination, exists in the daily lives of the inner circle.
And while every season is unique, this one was special.
Embedded in the intimate world of the Cal women's basketball program from August 2007 through March 2008, I witnessed the ups and the downs, the public and the private, the professional and the personal. For those eight months, I recorded the journey of the 10 individuals who united together and broke out onto the national scene.
A group naturally weary of outsiders, I am indebted to their trust. The coaching staff graciously provided me with an “all access” pass into their lives with full support to shoot at my own discretion. My goal was to capture the breadth of their experience, the stories within the story.
This collection illustrates Cal’s journey through the 2007-08 season. Two and a half years ago they were picked to finish 8th in the Pac-10 conference. Now they are ranked as a Top 10 program in the country. Here is my visual presentation of how they got there.
