Amihan - the northeast monsoon
Habagat - the southwest monsoon

Between November 2007 and May 2008 I spent six months in the Philippines, collecting data for my PhD in marine ecology. Based in Dumaguete, I island hopped between Negros Oriental, Siquijor, Bohol and Mindanao. I rode jeepneys, hailed pedicabs and took midnight ferries. I got lost on a motorbike trying to navigate the highlands of Siquijor. I got urchin spines stuck in my foot after falling out of a broken bangka. I learnt to love lechon, adobo, calamansi and kinilaw. I counted a lot of fish. I watched the monsoons change.
