SAN FRANCISCO ON THE LEVEL

These photos are unnerving because the street has been used as the horizon in each one. That is, the shots were aligned as if the road were level, so that San Francisco's old Victorian houses seem to lean at precarious angles like the Tower of Pisa. To create this series, Rendell photographed over 100 buildings on San Francisco's steepest streets in July 2006.
