A visual ode to the cherry blossoms of Japan. Photographs taken over a three-year period from 2004 - 2007 in Toyama, Saitama, Kyoto and Nara.
Poetry excerpts from the Kokinshu, "Ancient and Modern Japanese Poems" – the first official anthology of poetry, compiled and edited in the 10th century.
"I'm drawn towards the documentary power photography provides; its ability in a fraction of a second, to exposures taken over minutes, hours or days to capture a sense of place, time, person, feeling, and convey these concepts to others. Good photographs transcend the boundaries of 2-dimensional presentation; they act as portals allowing the viewer to move between realities. I strive to capture images which facilitate this shift - that relate the cultural narrative of different times, places, people and experience – and hint at the underlying presence that unites all of these narratives into one."
