This book is intended to provide a pictoral glimpse of Fort Rock and the surrounding area. Located in the High Desert in south, central Oregon, Fort Rock is a much visited site. It was designated as a State Monument in 1962 and a National Natural Landmark in 1976. There is much history in the area. The Fort Rock Cave is the famous site of the 1938 Cressman archaeological excavation which unearthed 9500 year old sagebrush sandals . Additionally, there is a Homestead Museum in the small town of Fort Rock which gives visitors an opportunity to view how the homesteaders lived.
