About the Book
Dr. Mary K. Sanders, born in South Bend, Indiana was the first in her family to receive a Bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University, where she then became a high school business teacher and taught at Hammond Gavit and Hammond Technical High Schools.
Mary and her husband, Lee A. Sanders, her college sweetheart, relocated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where Mary became the first African-American teacher hired at Menomonee Falls High School. After the loss of her mother to breast cancer, Dr. Sanders raised her younger teen-aged brothers. The family subsequently moved to Dayton, Ohio where her family grew with the addition of her stepson and eventually the adoption of an 18 month old baby girl.
Besides being a devoted wife, sister and Mom, Dr. Sanders has been serving in higher education for the past 38 years. She has been employed by Kennesaw State University, Georgia State University and Georgia Perimeter College as a College Administrator. Residing now in Stone Mountain, Georgia she has worked diligently within her community, receiving numerous awards for her accomplishments.
With a passion to reach others who may share similar health challenges as her own, Dr. Sanders felt led to write her story, sharing how God sustained her through living with a brain tumor while He brought her through a life of many spiritual and medical challenges.
With a passion to impart wisdom to others on how to be proactive with their own health care, Dr. Mary K. Sanders gladly took inspiration from the lyrics of one of her favorite songs, “God Kept Me".
"So, I am here today, because God Kept me.
I’m alive today only because of HIS grace.
Oh, HE kept me, GOD kept me.
HE kept me - so I wouldn’t let go."
