Sue McAlpine Horner began her career as a designer when she launched her design business Susan Joan Knitwear Designs in 1983. Success soon followed when Sue was the Yorkshire winner in the Knitmaster Designer Competition and was commissioned to produce her first book of knitwear designs. Sue continued to design for the magazine trade and for yarn spinners and published the Rogues Gallery series which sold 115,000 copies world wide. Sue qualified as a teacher (Post 16 Education) in 1990 and taught Creative Studies/Textiles until eventually moving into a management role in the further education sector. Sue has served as a moderator and external verifier on Creative Studies courses for the South Yorkshire Open College Network and City and Guilds of London Institute. She continues to pursue her interest in textiles and mixed media art, raising funds for her chosen charity ; the MS Society, through guest lectures and presentations to needlework and textile groups in South Yorkshire.
