About the Book
Disruptive Technologies can be described as the conscious application of new technology that can radically shift the status quo, breaking current paradigms.
This book has been composed as a personal record of the research and projects from two year’s studying Master of Architecture at the University of Edinburgh, projects that have dramatically transformed my architectural philosophy .
Three projects explored different perspectives of the emerging Material/Immaterial relationship of contemporary architectural design.
Material: Fabric Formwork 'Sinigle Cast Concrete'
Immaterial: A sensory interactive system 'voidloop'
Material/Immaterial Hybrid: Exploring the socio-material relationship in the context of a school.
The final year built upon this philosophy with a year long architectural project in the Icelandic capital Reykjavik, inventing a brief and designing a resolved urban building: The Icelandic Modern Media Initiative HQ.
The projects in this book might appear irrational at first, but they are in fact the culmination of a rational process determined by refined construction, analysis and improvement, utilising the ‘hacker mentlity’ to disrupt the conventional approach to generating architecture.
The first three projects are based on reports throughout the year, recorded on the project blogs. Visit:
