This book was produced to coincide with the exhibition Street & Studio: An Urban History of Photography, held at Tate Modern, London, 22 May – 31 August 2008. The exhibition presented a history of photographic portraiture: taken on the street or in the photographer’s studio.
Working in partnership with Flickr and Blurb, Tate invited members of the Flickr community to contribute to this photobook. As in the exhibition, each photograph is an urban portrait.
From the thousands of photographs submitted to the Street or Studio Flickr group, the 100 photographs which form this book were selected by:
Juergen Teller, artist whose work was included in the exhibition
Ute Eskildsen, curator of Street and Studio: An Urban History of Photography
Heather Champ, photographer and member of the Flickr team
We would like to thank everyone who added their photograph to the group, the judges, Flickr and Blurb for their support and enthusiasm.
