About the Book
Brooks Institute has been a leader in visual arts education for over 65 years. At its inception Brooks specialized in the craft and application of photography. The school’s commitment to the photographic arts has evolved and continues today with a graduate level program dedicated to the development of the distinctive voice of the photographer as a fine artist.
This catalog is a sample of the work of our Master of Fine Arts degree graduates. The work, exhibited as a requirement of graduation, represents the conclusion of a rigorous two years of academic and studio studies. The courses in the MFA in Photography Program set a framework that allows students to develop a depth of knowledge about image-making in context with the art, science, and aesthetics of photography. From this foundation, students engage in intense dialog and critique, developing a culminating body of work that represents deeply personal reflections and intellectual considerations.
The program is proud to encourage the variety of themes, concerns, methods, and materials evidenced in these images. From 19th century alternative processes to current digital capture, from social commentary to personal revelation; each student has followed his or her unique path to a singular vision. We applaud their diversity and celebrate their accomplishments.
