About the Book
"Desperate Freedom", takes four teens through the cycles of poverty, each stuck in their own prison looking for a way out. Rachel, the main character, hangs on to her hope despite living with a mother with a severe mental illness. She fights to save her friends from Oxycontin and drug addiction. She is surviving, but her survival brings her to the end of the line, and it is up to her to find the answer to her own escape. Her town of Grey Bay, Newfoundland will never be the same. This book takes you through the social welfare system, in a journey that will change your perceptions of what it means to be poor and to be a teen making it through the system. Four teens, four lives, changed forever. Their desperate attempt at freedom brings them to a terrible decision, with only time on Rachel’s side.
