About the Book
In the summer of 2009, quirky 72-year-old Filipino farmer, Bonifacio, decided to spend the next three months renovating his house. His 20-year-old over-dramatic and accident-prone daughter decided to help.
As the two worked together to break down the physical walls of their house, their emotional barriers disappeared too. Their silent and often awkward father-daughter relationship grew into a real friendship as stories from their past surfaced and the true meaning of family was discovered.
_____
Winner of The 2010 Eric and Jack Wells Excellence in Journalism Award, Rice and Mashed Potatoes, is a humourous yet equally heart-felt true-life story about the obstacles in life, the relationships we often take for granted and the things we ultimately learn about ourselves when we pay attention to the ones we love.
