About the Book
Vida is a six-year old girl that has had an accident and is in a wheelchair. She has a cast on her right leg and another cast on her left shoulder. She can’t walk or run, and has to stay in her house while watching the children playing and having fun outside. Vida is sad because she cannot attend school and she doesn’t want to repeat first grade.
Dad has told Vida that her Grandma Tatá lives in a star. One night, while looking out of her window at the starry sky, she sees her Grandma and talks to her. Tatá tells her that she will help her, and Vida promises Tatá to study hard.
How does Vida overcome this challenge and continue school?

I am a practicing artist and a Visual Arts teacher to students grades 2nd through 8th at a public school of Miami, Florida. Lately, I have felt inspired to write and illustrate these series of picture books in which the main character is a six-year old girl named Vida (Life in Spanish), based on autobiographical stories, experiences, and memories of my childhood in my native country, Cuba, and as a gift to my future child.
