The Mail Pouch barn is a true and enduring part of Americana. Mail Pouch painted barns and signs have been a part of the American and West Virginia landscape for over 100 years…but are disappearing at a fast pace. The Bloch Brothers Tobacco Company and Mail Pouch began in Wheeling, WV in the late 19th century. The idea for using barns as advertising billboards was born there.

Steve Shaluta has researched old Mail Pouch painter location records and crisscrossed the back roads of West Virginia searching for these Mail Pouch advertisement icons, resulting in images of all the Mail Pouch barns and signs which remain.
