About the Book
This book was lovingly and artistically created by
The Arts & Culture students of
Gwendolyn Brooks Middle School in the
2012-2013 school year.
Each page represents the style and characteristics of artwork traditionally created by a certain group of people or area of the world. It is our hope to not only educate the readers on art history and geography but also to spread an appreciation for art and different cultures around the world.
Arts & Culture students have learned about some of the peace makers of the world as well as the abundance of violence in our society. We learned about the concept of Ahimsa, meaning non-violence.
All proceeds from the purchases of this book will be donated to a "The Peace Corner" in Chicago.
"Art is my Ahimsa."
