The Masks of the Goddess

Click to preview book

THE MASKS OF THE GODDESS, beautifully illustrated with photographs by Thomas Lux, Peter Hughes, Anne Beam and others, documents a collection of 30 multi-cultural masks of Goddesses created by artist Lauren Raine. The collection of masks travelled throughout the U.S, from the Chapel of the Sacred Mirrors in New York City, to the Spiral Dance in San Francisco, continually in use by ritualists, choreographers, and storytellers for over 10 years, as they celebrated the Divine Feminine in myth and within our lives. The book includes stories of the Goddesses, articles, performance excerpts, and interviews collected during those years.

About the Author

Lauren Raine MFA
laurenraine  Tucson, Arizona
I've been a visionary artist for over 30 years, specializing in community art projects, sacred masks, and visionary arts. I also teach the Art of the Mask. In 2007 I had a fellowship at the Alden Dow Creativity Center to pursue my community arts project "The Hands of the Spider Woman", based upon the Native American legend; in 2009 I will be continuing the project at the Henry Luce Center at Wesley Theological University. May we all become "Beautiful Weavers".
