Now a blighted no-man's-land of empty buildings and boarded-up storefronts, Mid-Market was once the heart of San Francisco's theater district. Part Two is both an epitaph and an appreciation of Mid-Market architecture, encompassing the histories of the district's theaters and other significant structures, the reasons for the district's decay, and my personal observations about the buildings that are still standing. Nineteen historical photos and postcards of Market Street contrast with forty-five of my own photos of what Mid-Market has become.
