About the Book
digital mixed-media images. These images trace metaphorically
the various stages I went through after my retirement such as disorientation,
recovery and reaching out into the wider world. The synthesis of the photographic image and gestural brush strokes provides a tension between reality and fantasy,
and the interior and external worlds.

About the Creator
I was born in Coventry, England during the Second World War. When I was ten we moved to a remote village in rural Northamptonshire. In l965 I emigrated to New York, studied Photography and Painting at Cooper Union Art School. In 1981 I finished my M.A. in Media Studies at the New School. In the same year I was hired for a full-time teaching position in the Department of Fine Arts at New York Institute of Technology. I began experimenting with various hands-on techniques on darkroom prints: painted-on developer, hand coloring, painted on emulsion, mark making. Digital mixed media was a natural progression for me. I can work with digital imaging technology and interact with the photographic image with gestural brush strokes, to give more of a feeling of immediacy.
