About the Book
Inviting Urban Play: Public Spaces|Public Life is a publication showcasing the Scan|Design Travel Study and graduate student design work from the 2013 Gehl Master Studio at the University of Washington. An interdisciplinary group from the UW's College of Built Environments traveled together to Copenhagen, Aarhus, and Malmo for two weeks, studying the ways in which the public spaces across these world class cities invite people to play in their midst. This book shows many of the places visited on the study tour, includes precedent studies across Scandanavia, presents inspired public space interventions in Seattle's University District, and concludes with 150 pages of student design work.
