About the Book
This book is an artistic document, photographically describing the Bristol counterculture, as it stands in 2014. The genres of music listened to by this counterculture include Techno, Jungle, Hardtek, Jungletek, Breakcore, Clowncore, Electro and Drum and Bass. These are all genres of electronic dance music and all use a succession of repetitive beats constructed digitally though computers. Though most of the people imaged in this book attend music events of the genres listed, this book will not focus on these events. This is an artistic documentation of the individuals that make up the counterculture.
The book is also made as a statement on the debate surrounding documentary photography. Though the “photographs” do contain images of real people who are involved in a specific subculture and the book is intended to tell a true story, the images have been manipulated to both illustrate and highlight the influence of 1960’s psychedelia on the subculture and (as would have been a painter or writers prerogative) to remove unimportant details of the story to make more clear, "real" interpretation of the subject. These manipulations do not extend to the characters depicted and are made through either copying or modifying existing photographic material.
