About the Book
Founded as an Art Studio by J. André Smith in 1937, the Center is a wealth of Mayan and Christian motifs in an open air courtyard. When Smith died in 1959, the Center remained unoccupied for 10 years and was in danger of being razed when the land and buildings were purchased by the City of Maitland, Florida, and reopened to the public in 1971. This book is a black and white homage to the unique concrete carvings of the courtyard and museum face.
